The process of making dummy models - lamination
In our daily mannequin production workshop, the lamination process is one of the most crucial steps.
It may not be the most visible part, but it determines the mannequin’s structural strength and long-term durability.
Every craftsman here knows — the quality of lamination defines how long a mannequin can stand the test of time and display.
Before lamination begins, we prepare the mold based on the mannequin’s design. The mold must be thoroughly cleaned and waxed to ensure a smooth release later. This guarantees that the finished mannequin will have a flawless, glossy surface.
Once the mold is ready, a thin layer of gel coat is applied — this forms the mannequin's ''skin,'' determining its texture and finish.
After the gel coat partially cures, the lamination officially begins.
At first glance, the process looks simple, but it's full of precision and rhythm.
Layers of pre-cut fiberglass cloth are carefully laid into the mold, one over another.
Each layer must fit the curves exactly — no folds, no trapped air. Meanwhile, craftsmen brush on resin, ensuring every strand of fiber is fully soaked and bonded.
As resin seeps through the fibers, the body begins to gain strength and structure.
Timing and feel are everything — resin curing speed, ambient temperature, and humidity all play vital roles. Skilled technicians rely on experience and touch to know when each layer is perfect and when the next one should begin.
Layer by layer, the mannequin's body comes to life. It's almost like sculpting in reverse — instead of carving away, we're building form from the inside out.
Once lamination is complete, the mold is set aside to cure fully.
And when it's finally time to release the mold — that’s the moment of creation. A brand new mannequin is born.
After demolding, trimming and sanding come next.
Every edge is polished, every surface smoothed by hand.
Only after several rounds of fine sanding and coating does the mannequin achieve its perfect texture — whether matte, glossy, or skin-toned.
Each finish reflects precision and quality control at every stage.
Lamination is where craftsmanship meets strength and beauty.
